Background:

King County is home to a diverse immigrant and refugee population. Access to healthcare services is a significant challenge for many newly arrived immigrants due to language barriers, cultural differences, and a lack of familiarity with the U.S. healthcare system. PR aims to address these challenges by creating an accessible, culturally sensitive resource to guide immigrants through the local healthcare landscape.

Objective:

To develop a comprehensive, culturally sensitive presentation tailored to the needs of immigrants and refugees, focusing on understanding and navigating King County’s healthcare system and available resources.

Scope of Work:

The consultant will be responsible for:
1. Content Development:
o Create an engaging, visually appealing presentation covering:
a. Overview of the U.S. Healthcare System: Types of care (primary, emergency, specialty), public vs. private options, and health insurance basics.
b. Enrollment in Healthcare Programs: Medicaid, CHIP, and marketplace health plans, including eligibility, application steps, and deadlines.
c. Navigating Local Healthcare Services: Hospitals, clinics, urgent care, and telehealth options.
d. Accessing Preventive and Specialty Care: Immunizations, maternity services, and mental health resources.
e. Cultural Competence in Healthcare: Understanding patient rights, communication tips, and how to address cultural or linguistic barriers.
f. Community Support Services: Free clinics, translation services, and immigrant-focused health advocacy groups.
o Present the material in 1-hour sessions during community events.
o Respond to inquiries from community navigators via email or phone as necessary.

2. Design and Format:
o Ensure the presentation is easy to understand, using simple language, visuals, and culturally relevant examples.
o Make the presentation adaptable for both in-person and virtual settings.

3. Consultation and Review:
o Engage with stakeholders (e.g., immigrant families, healthcare providers, and community organizations) to ensure the presentation is relevant and culturally sensitive.
o Incorporate feedback from project leads, team members, and stakeholders.

4. Deliverables:
o A final PowerPoint presentation (editable) with speaker notes.
o Any supporting materials, a one-page resource guide, and references.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in healthcare, migration, or community development.
• Strong knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, particularly in Washington State.
• Excellent presentation design skills with expertise in culturally responsive communication.
